This is an international issue of labor migration as young women with no other good options choose being smuggled

This is one of the few books on this subject I can believe. So many books about sex work or trafficking are simply sucking at the fed government trough with extreme stories to take advantage of the money and social hysteria associated with George W Bush's War on Trafficking. US Fed Gov's role made a market for a rescue industry to chase after and harass consenting sex workers who do not want to be rescued. It gave license for extreme stories and crazy talk. This is an international issue of labor migration as young women with no other good options choose being smuggled, not trafficked, to go across a border where the money is better. The United States will be on the wrong side of history on this issue. I have read other work by Ms. Ditmore and this is the book that will tell the truth. This is th eone to buy!

I love a book that looks at what would happen when the $#it hits the fan. Usually these books are about zombies, mysterious infections or over the top natural disasters. Tomorrow War goes well beyond any of those unlikely scenarios, the cause of this “apocalypse” is completely man-made and well within our current technological capabilities. Tomorrow War is scarier because this could actually happen.

J.L. Bourne has paid meticulous attention to details. Our hero, Max, is so well prepared for the end of the world as we know it; it makes the best prepared preppers look like amateurs. What I normally love about a post-apocalyptic book, is thinking to myself: What would I do? Could I survive? The simple answer in Max’s world is “NO!”

Max is an incredibly well developed character. We meet Max early on in his training. It is evident from the start that Max has “it” - the skills that are required for the special ops jobs that his country has planned for him. His training creates the Max who can survive in this new dangerous world. But Max is more than just a survivor, he is a man unwilling to give up his principles; just because things have gotten dangerous, doesn’t mean that a person’s basic rights have changed. These are rights that others have fought and died for and Max is willing to make this same sacrifice.

Tomorrow War is an intense portrayal of what could happen, what we could become. J.L. Bourne has done a fantastic job of telling this gripping story that kept me on the edge of my seat with my chest clenched. One thing that I do know for certain; if things ever do get that bad, Tomorrow War will no longer be a fictional story, but my personal survival guide.

There's A Whole Lot To Look At, But There's No Room For Love.

J.L. Bourne stole the show with his sleeper hit, Day by Day Armageddon; a piece-meal masterpiece [collection] that was drawn together from a collection of faux-journal entries once attributed to his nameless hero. Though his writing may have simply been a way to burn time during a brief vacation from service - as he is in fact an active member of the Navy- he ended creating something with a little more reach. His characters were rich, unique, and all suffered from their own flaws and shortcomings. The day to day passings could easily be imagined, and the calamities relived each and every time you would dance along with his words.

Tomorrow War marks a slight turn in this tradition, and though the similarities of narrative remain, a lot has been lost in the wash. Max, the faultless hero, begins with a background that could have made its way into a unique storyline, however, the set-up almost seems to be a play at convenience. But in truth, it seems as though this 'convenience' has been created as a reverse engineered solution to give our hero the background to move mountains. Though it can be difficult to explain without examples [I hate spoilers], maybe you'll take note as you work your way along.

It's this 'genie in a bottle' experience that has left me with a very particular taste in my mouth. Though I greatly enjoyed the set-up - and research tied to its rollout - Max's response is all too rushed, and far too easy. Weapons practically fall from the sky in a configuration that would make a gun-nerd bust his nut, and consumables come in volumes that he could burn half his stock and still have enough left over to supply a war party in the Congo. There's no hustle, there's no struggle, it's as if JLB just wanted to hit the nail on the head, and didn't want to run up the page count. For me, this was such a departure from DbDA, as you felt nervous for the man as time he fired a shot or had a meal; you felt his isolations and worries, but with Max, I couldn't care less. I think that says more than anything.

What I will say, is that JLB has added a new twist to a universe of literature that has been chewed up and spat out the same way, time and time again. The scenario is fresh, the response is new, and the scenery holds something that stands all on its own. If ever there is a time that a writer gets me thinking, I can't be all too broken up about it. Unfortunately, it's as if he's created a beautiful set with no actors on stage. Disposable players round out each chapter of the book, and even by the end I still found myself unattached, and underwhelmed.

Despite the fact that I believe JLB rushed through this as if he were playing 'what would I do if I won the lottery', I have no intentions of discounting this book. Though lacking direction late into the 3rd quarter, I have a strong feeling that Bourne already has his second book in the works; perhaps and effort that will bring his characters and scenarios back to ground. Time leads to desperation, and though I'm sure our faithful hero will continue to hit the jackpot, I'll simply settle for a little more soul, and a little more to hold onto.

Tomorrow War, exemplifies the reason J.L. Bourne is one of my favorite authors. He knows his sh!t and isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. The only word of warning I can give is, set some time aside, because once you start on this thriller you won’t stop until its finished. I picked it up, and eight hours later at O dark thirty, I was cursing over the final page. This is the real deal, future land warfare in a country gone wrong, and what makes it truly terrifying is this could happen, and may potentially be right around the corner. No reason to suspend disbelief on this one, J.L. Bourne has clearly set the stage for a new wave of destruction! Toss on a rucks sack, grab your M4 and join Max on an epic adventure…

About the Author
Timothy Samara is a graphic designer based in New York City, where he divides his time between teaching, writing, lecturing, and freelance consulting through STIM Visual Communication. His 18-year career in branding and information design has explored projects in print, packaging, environments, user interface design, and animation. He has been a senior art director at Ruder Finn, New York’s largest public relations firm, and senior art director at Pettistudio, a small multidisciplinary design firm. Before relocating to Manhattan, he was principal of Physiologic in Syracuse, located in upstate New York.

In 1990, he graduated a Trustee Scholar from the Graphic Design program at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Mr. Samara is a faculty member at New York’s School of Visual Arts, New York University, Purchase College/SUNY, and The New School, and has published six books on design and typography, all through Rockport Publishers: Making and Breaking the Grid; Typography Workbook; Publication Design Workbook; Type Style Finder; Design Elements; and, most recently, Design Evolution, released in January 2008. Mr. Samara and his partner live in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Is this the second best book on type?

Few books share the cadre of enthusiastic readers that Robert Bringhurst created with his Elements of Typographic Style.

But, Timothy Samara's Typography Workbook comes close, and, in some ways, is equally useful. (The two books complement each other quite well).

Samara manages to combine the technical with the inspirational. His tutorials on typeface design and layout are compellingly written and informative, but where the Typography Workbook realkly shines is the glorious color reproductions of type in use. Nothing communicates like color illustrations, and the Typographic Workbook contains hundreds of samples.

The Typography Workbook is an ideal choice for student or faculty alike. Text has been concisely edited, permitting large visuals to illustrate the points being made, as well as alternative approaches. Use it as an introductory text, a practical guide next to your computer, or for inspiration when needed.

Be Careful About Kindle Version

Please be careful about purchasing this as a kindle book. Even if you view it in the cloud or from your desktop, the formatting of the book is not the same as the printed one. This is especially important because the formatting of a typography book is part of the learning process. They have examples of text in the book that are purposefully formatted a certain way so you can compare the leading, kerning, wordspace, indents, hyphenations, rag, justification, and so on. These examples proved useless in the ebook version because the formatting is all the same. I wish they would fix this, because a huge part of the book is to visually see the differences so you can learn what to do and what not to do. Disappointed, and will be buying the physical version instead. Not a happy customer.

Excellent author

A very good overview of typography in everyday situations, as a how-to and as shown by example. Many of the examples are in a style I don't personally like (I'm a traditionalist by nature and modern typography often borders on the chaotic in my opinion) but as a designer seeing what's being done out there is a necessity. This book is more than just a typographic showcase of current thought and work - it presents sound principles that underscore what's presented.

I already love 30 day challenges. It makes it easy to just stay focused for one month and that's it. After 30 days you are into the swing of things and it isn't hard to continue. This book is especially wonderful because it uses the 30 day challenge idea with Paleo and who could ask for a better combo!

Adam explores the problems with modern diets and how Paleo takes care of each and every one of these problems. It's not my first go to for cooking

I guess I am old school and I like to have product in my hand. This is digital and I knew it was. I don't have a smart phone or an I phone so for me to really use the book I have to either boot up my laptop and take it in the kitchen or print what I am going to be using. I usually print it. Just not something I refer to often because it is very inconvenient for me.

If you really want to do well on this test and you know that flash cards work well for you in terms of study sessions, you might consider making cards. But it’s hard to know what to put on them and cards take time to make! These flash cards are a great alternative because you don’t have to put any time or effort into making them. All you have to do is buy them. And when you have them on hand, you have everything you need in order to do well on the test. The cards save you time because they organize the information for you and you can study them anywhere at all.

Ok not great. A good place to start

The author gives a lot of information about what is required to know from the FDA. Some of that is good to know but I don't plan on using man-made coloring compounds anytime soon. There were several times through the book where she said not to use one ingredient for a particular kind of skin but never gave an alternative to use. I read through the entire book waiting for the alternatives and never found one. Plus, the editor missed some wrong words in the first chapter "your" for "you're" that type of thing. Anyone who writes should know the difference between words like that and when to use them. So that really took down the stars right off the top. But all the ways they are labeled she explained better than another author.

Great book with recipes

This book was a really quick easy read with great instructions. I haven't made any of the products yet but I will. I would have liked links to where I could buy the ingredients but I'm sure I can find those myself. Nice simple, easy recipes. Really recommend this book if you're serious about making your own makeup.

You get what you pay for

For a cheap price, cheap content. I won't buy any more from Marco. Title promises more. Too much on X10 and storing data in cloud. Examples are well-written and easy to follow. I've completed several pieces projects and was hoping to find new projects. Disappointed. Amazon sample was poor. I'd like to see middle of book,and not intro, preface, and not much else. Less than thirty minute read.

Great book for beginners

It’s an interesting book, I got a Raspberry Pi for Christmas and didn’t really look at it until now…3 months later! I was a bit intimidated by it because it seems like there’s a ton of different programming knowledge I’d need to have to make this work. This is why I got this book, it’s more like a guide really, lots of pictures and a good explanation for a beginner like me to match up and learn. The book also offers resources at the end chapters for future learning.
