Good book

I bought this textbook for my Biochemistry/Cell Biology class and the material in the book was helpful. Most major concepts were explained clearly but there were some concepts that were vague. The pictures within the book were extremely helpful (at least for my class)

The book arrived in pristine condition and had no marks from previous owners

Overall the book was very good and helpful the author could improve the content of the book by using more examples in order to explain difficult concepts.

Not a well designed e book

the real book is way easier to use, unless weight or space is your main concern. No link to the table of contents. You have to go to the front page and scroll through to it, Graphics are good but it makes page loads very slow, so paging through looking for something takes forever. There are no links to the chapters in the table of contents so you must try to scroll to the right page and same thing for the index in the back. Also they will not let you view the books from the kindle web browser or my iPhone, only a kindle or my table, which greatly reduced it's usefulness. Ebooks should be better than paperbooks, they have the opportunity. But I have yet to find a single one that I was satisfied with and this one is no different. Its just a really big, slow to load pdf file.

The book is fine, but what they fail to mention when you're buying it as an ebook is that it isn't compatible with iPhone or with Windows 8. I had to download the Windows 7 driver just to get it to open.

Using judicial records from a variety of colonial courts, Lewis highlights the ethnographic details of legal proceedings as she demonstrates how Indians, in particular, came to be the masters of witchcraft, a domain of power that drew on gendered and hegemonic caste distinctions to complicate the colonial hierarchy. She also reveals the ways in which blacks, mulattoes, and mestizos mediated between Spaniards and Indians, alternatively reinforcing Spanish authority and challenging it through alliances with Indians. Bringing to life colonial subjects as they testified about their experiences, Hall of Mirrors discloses a series of contradictions that complicate easy distinctions between subalterns and elites, resistance and power.

It solidified my belief that coincidences happen for a reason and are not just random happenstance. I have since ventured into other areas such as sychronicity within the psychology realm. After my husband passed away at the age of 61, I have experienced many unusual signs and numbers that have made me realize that there is a natural rhythm to the universal to which one must be in tune to for our pursuit of our own destiny. I have been extremely comforted by many of these signs.

Crikey, left me speechless, the basics of quantum physics, related by Deepak in layman's terms was the perfect base of information needed for me to totally understand the entire concept of meditation....something that I now realize I haven't understood at all until now. I keep repaying these discs and learn more every time...I've always been an arden admirer of Deepak Chopra and will continue purchasing his books and discs.

The frequent use of the metaphor renders a style magnificent, but often obscure: the Hebrew poets have accomplished the sublime without losing perspicuity--Three causes assigned for this singular fact: first, the imagery which they introduce is in general derived from familiar objects: again, in the use and accommodation of it they pursue a certain custom and analogy: lastly, they make the most free use of that which is most familiar, and the nature and extent of which is most generally known--These observations confirmed by examples (1.) from natural objects: such as are common to mankind in general; such as are more familiar to the Hebrews than to others; and such as are peculiar to them. "The great excellence of the poetic dialect," as Aristotle most judiciously remarks, "consists in perspicui"ty without meanness. Familiar terms and words in "common use form a clear and perspicuous, but fre"quently a low style; unusual or foreign expressions "give it an air of grandeur, but frequently render it "obscure.'" Of those which he calls foreign, the principal force lies in the metaphor; but "as the tem"perate and reasonable use of this figure enlivens a "composition, so the frequent introduction of meta"phors obscures it, and if they very commonly occur, 1 Poet. c. 22. A pioneering scholarly work

It is difficult for me to imagine anyone reading through this work who is not a scholar of Hebrew poetry.

The work is of great historical importance as it defines as principal device of Hebrew poetry, the device of parallelism.

However refinements and qualifications of Lowth's thesis are made by more modern scholars , two of the most well- known of whom are, Robert Alter and James Kugel.

Excellent Third Installment!

Well written, cleverly plotted 3rd installment in the Broken City series. I have been waiting for this third book for some time now, so you can imagine my excitement when I was graciously informed that it was finally available.

When last we saw Deeta and Tom they had been painfully separated from each other after being ambushed by the Lewises. Deeta was saved by a smaller tribe, the Birds while Tom was being held prisoner by Captain Max, Linus and Neddy all from the Lewises clan. This book picks up from where we left off. Deeta has a nasty leg injury and Tom is still being held by Max, who interestingly enough starts to show a whole new side to himself one in which He and Tom can find some common ground.

This book has a lot of moving parts both with the separate situations going on with our two protagonists and many other actions/situations taking place with some of the more minor yet equally important characters. We see several of Tom's brothers plot to not only find him but also work towards what was ultimately on of his main goals, peace. This book is clever, intelligent and has many political undertones at the same time it is action packed, thrilling, sometimes violent but also enlightening especially through Deeta.

Deeta by far has the biggest transformation in this story. Being newly exposed to the outside world she is coming face to face with all the emotions and violence that reside within the other clans. Hate, revenge, disgust and fear are all very prevalent among the people who cross her path and it begins to affect her outlook on not just life in general but also herself. By the end of this third book we see a very capable, cunning and fearless Deeta rise up to start taking control of her situation. Its well done and very believable, as a reader you almost start to go through the same evolution if you will. You are right there with Deeta as she starts to go down this new journey of her life. You feel the same pain, rage, love and hope.

Chant gives her readers a nice little twist at the end of this book that I didn't see coming and it was both quite a surprise and also well received. It think it was a very smart and slick little shocker but I won't be spilling the beans on what it is. You will just have to read the book!

By the looks of the ending the Broken City Series is not over just yet and I can't wait to see what tactics Chant will employ in the next installment of this series. Chant's series is thoroughly developed with a multitude of complex characters that are both easy to despise and easy to admire. The Broken City world is not only creative but ingenious. Very well done, readers of the apocalyptic genre will definitely enjoy it.

Broken City Series Book Three
Deeta Andak is definitely seeing life in the real world. Everything her father and Tom had sheltered her from all these years is now her new reality. Death. War. Hate. Mistrust. Even the tribe that saved her and Jan from the Lewises could turn on her. Can she hold onto who she is? Or will she become someone she never wanted to be?

Tom will not be beaten down. He has to live to protect his wife. His family. He just needs to escape the hell he's in to do that.

This story picks up where the previous book left off, Broken Truce. Our heroes and heroines are fighting for peace and to rescue their loved ones. And a few of the Andak's are being enlightened about their lifestyle compared to the others in the City. And if they can lower their pride enough, they'll understand why they are so hated and maybe, but doubtful, change their ways.

Futuristic Romeo and Juliet

In the future, your last name could be a reason to be held against your will. It's not just other countries you have to fear, it's people across town or even your neighbor. You must choose carefully when you decide to become part of a group. One young couple will risk everything to be together. Will they be strong enough to survive?

The book is very well written and has terrific characters. I'm always curious to see how people will portray our future. I really enjoyed the "Romeo and Juliet" type of relationship the young couple have. The book is captivating and well worth the read.

I did find an issue. I felt as if I was missing some information. Like I jumped into the middle of a conversation. You definitely have to read the others in the series.

I gave this one 3 cheers out of 5 because I felt lost as I read this one. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
