Fantastic Super-Portable Orthodox Prayer Book!

I am an Orthodox Christian who tends to collect prayer books. I can say, having now used this for a month or so, that this is a great pocket prayer book for Orthodox Christians. Full morning and evening prayers, contextual hours, preparation for communion, and many occasional prayers make this a rather complete prayer book, despite being exceptionally portable. The physical design of the book -- quite sturdy cover and binding, complete with a gold ribbon marker, the lovely black/red text on sturdy cream pages, and the hyper-portable size and thickness -- enhances its usefulness as a daily spiritual aid for Orthodox. Highly recommended for any Orthodox Christian looking for a complete "go to" prayer book which is exceptionally portable.

A Truly Useful Pocket Prayer Book

"An Orthodox Prayer Book: Pocket Edition" is a delightful surprise, beautifully edited based on Athonite usage. For example, the morning rule opens with standard prayers from the Mesonyktion, but the editors have replaced the usual collection of morning offerings from Sts. Basil and Makarios et al. with the Hexapsalmos from Orthros, a brilliant approach which places emphasis on psalmody where it belongs. The occasional prayers at the back of the pocket edition are tastefully selected, with an emphasis on more recent compositions, like Archimandrite Sophrony's touching daybreak prayer and Metropolitan Philaret's morning offerings. There is only one drawback: the pocket edition is just that, a very small book so packed with material that the font size is just thus side of legible. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this high-quality, beautifully printed, and very usable edition of traditional Orthodox daily prayers.
